Director

Nicholas Fairbank was raised on the west coast of British Columbia, studied in Vancouver, London (UK), California and France. Currently, his time is dedicated to his various musical interests and he is often seen locally or further afield as a collaborative pianist, harpsichordist and organist, conductor, or singer (as the baritone in the vocal ensemble Hexaphone). 

        Mr. Fairbank has earned Master's degrees from the Université de Paris (Musicology & French literature), the University of California at Santa Barbara (French language and pedagogy), and the University of Victoria (Composition), as well as Associateship diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music (gold medal winner for pipe organ, 1981), and the Royal Canadian College of Organists (Willan and Barker prizes 1998). 

       In addition to his responsibilities with Via Choralis, he is Artistic Director for the Viva Youth Choirs of Victoria, teaches on the faculty of the Victoria Conservatory of Music and is a piano and organ Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music.   He is currently serving as 1st Vice-President of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, and is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and a member of SOCAN.
